Jim Ross says ‘Tony’s got me doing PPVs’, will work AEW Dynasty

Posted: Apr 21st 2024 By: Sean Rueter

AEW announcer Jim Ross has been realistic about his future since re-signing with the company last month. The 78 year old has been working as much as he can as he deals with a variety of health issues. While he’s taking it year-by-year, he recently shared that 2024 very well could mark the end of his legendary career.

On his Grilling JR podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer recently shared AEW head honcho Tony Khan’s plan for what could be Ross’ final year:

“Tony’s got me doing pay-per-views. At least that’s the plan today, and I hope it stays that way because I have something to look forward to. They’re big events. That card for St. Louis, my God. That son of a bitch is star-studded. man. It’s like a major major pay-per-view, which it’s what it is.”

“That card for St. Louis” is this Sunday’s Dynasty PPV. Ross also talked about that, which will be his first time calling AEW action since he called Sting’s last match at their Revolution PPV in early March. It sounds like JR will again be focused on the big, main event-level matches this weekend:

“I’m awfully excited about the big AEW pay-per-view this Sunday [in] St. Louis. I’ll be flying out there on Saturday. Excited about whatever my role will be. I’ll be happy with it. I feel like [the great New York Yankees closer Mariano] Rivera. I feel like I’m always in the bullpen. But I’ll come in, I’ll shut your ass down [in] the bottom of the ninth or get some outs, whatever.

“Nonetheless, I’m not sure what I’m gonna do. It doesn’t matter, it’s a wrestling match. So I always say that if you put the son of a bitch on the monitor, I can call it. I can describe what we’re seeing collectively. So it’s a pretty cool deal. I’m looking forward to going out there and participating with the team. It’s hard to believe I haven’t been working since Greensboro on-air, so fun deal. It’ll be good, a good show,”

You can hear JR call action on Dynasty if you order the show from Triller.TV, or one of the may other outlets offering this AEW PPV. You can check out the latest episode of Grilling JR here.
